We have explained to the National Monument Service of Ireland (a government organisation ) the story of the Black Castle, it's history and how much tourism it would create as well as boosting employment in the region.
We await a reply from them. We do hope that the government takes a real interest in this and buy the black castle the buildings connected and renovate it. It's currently on sale for just €100,000, this is €50,000 cheaper than a number of 2 bedroom bungalows in the same town. And including the Black Castle Society itself, you get a 3 storey building which looks out onto the main square of the town, a large car park to the rear of the castle, and two public entrance gates, and an West Gate Arch entrance off junction of Friar street, Croke Street and the road to the main square. A large court yard with a number of smaller buildings all for €100,000 ! It would be a great loss for the State not to buy the black castle & the buildings connected and renovate them in the timeperiod of Viscount and Lady Thurles , hold reenactments, weddings, special events, charity events, gallery of l9cal art. Book reading, Historical carnivals and festivals. A farmers market in the Court Yard fresh made brown soda bread, locally produced food and products. Buskers alley, have it lit up at night , have plant beds and a number of trees and shrubs and garden benches so the public can walk through the West Gate Arch entrance to the Old Town Walls Gates. It would be amazing if this was to happen. So, we hope that we get a reply from the National Monument Service of Ireland.
